The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Office of Sponsored Programs has an excellent opportunity for college graduates with limited grants/contracts administration experience. The incumbent will participate in a comprehensive training and development program, leading to the opportunity to work on a variety of pre-award grant and contract administration activities.  Under senior supervision and mentoring, this position will work in collaboration with financial colleagues, legal advisors, principal investigators, department administrators, deans, and other key personnel across the campus, as well as counterparts in the private and government sectors.  A career in sponsored research administration is a dynamic and growing area of expertise with established professional societies, ongoing training and networking opportunities, and a career ladder which provides for significant earning potential. 

The incumbent will learn and use the latest business practices while gaining contracting and grants management experience and in-depth knowledge of federal acquisition regulations.  This position will support the OSP Managers in the administration and facilitation of extramural proposal submission and non-financial post award administration for various sponsors and various assigned departments.  This support includes but is not limited to: Using campus systems to maintain and track proposals and awards; assist in sub-recipient monitoring, management and close out functions; as well as regular outreach to the UMBC Community. After becoming familiar with sponsor requirements, the Specialist will be expected to balance compliance with customer service for assigned Principal Investigators.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree.  Must have excellent communication, organization and customer service skills.  Proficiency in the use of computers and MS Office required. 

Preferred Qualifications:  Some knowledge of federal regulations relating to grants and/or contracts desired.  Experience with electronic research administration systems like Kuali, or PeopleSoft ERP is a plus.
