The Women’s Center at UMBC advances gender equity from an inter-sectional feminist perspective through co-curricular programming, support services, and advocacy for marginalized individuals and communities. We prioritize critical social justice as our community value, with a deliberate focus on women, gender, anti-racism, and feminism. As a community space within UMBC, the Women's Center serves over 1,000 visitors each month during the academic year.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate co-curricular feminist programming, including leading trainings, workshops, and presentations for departments and student organizations. Coordinate programming with special emphasis on providing education, outreach, and support for women of color students. Assist director in coordinating programs and affinity groups including, but not limited to: Between Women, Rebuilding Manhood, Returning Women Student Scholars, Women of Color Coalition, Spectrum, Critical Social Justice, Clothesline Project, Women's History Month, and Sexual Assault and Relationship Violence Awareness Months.
  • Coordinate partnerships, publicity, social media, and other outreach efforts. Specific emphasis is on publicity and marketing through design of flyers and other promotional materials. Represent the Women’s Center and serve as liaison to on- and off-campus partners, committees/task forces, and student groups.
  • Supervise team of student staff, interns, and volunteers. Assist Director with recruitment, hiring, direct supervision, and evaluation. Implement trainings focused on facilitating brave spaces, student leadership development, outreach and social media communication, and other professional development.
  • Provide crisis response, advocacy, and support as needed for students, particularly with regard to sexual and gender-based violence. Serve as quasi-confidential reporter and provide information and resources related to Title IX. Maintain the safe space provided by the Women's Center.
  • Oversee daily operation of the Women’s Center, including assisting visitors, providing resources, and maintaining community space guidelines. Assist as needed with administrative tasks that may include but not limited to: payroll, purchasing, inventory, department and program budget monitoring.
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Women/Gender Studies, Social Work, Human Services, or other service related/people and society focused fields and at least one year of experience with education and advocacy related to gender/women's issues, LGBTQ issues.

Prior experience/training related to supporting students in crisis, specifically as it relates to interpersonal violence.

Prior experience with/exposure to a university women's center and/or college student development

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Demonstrated understanding of intersecting identities, power privileges, feminism, and social justice.
  • Must have good organization and communication (both verbal and written) skills; detail oriented, self-motivated, flexible; demonstrate the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated mastery in Photoshop or comparable program with complementary skills related to marketing and publicity (to include social media platforms). 
  • Minimum one year experience with student supervision and administrative roles.
  • Master's Degree in Student Affairs/Higher Education, Women/Gender Studies, Social Work,  or other service related/people and society focused fields is preferred.
