Counseling Center

UMBC Counseling Center professional staff are responsible for providing counseling services for students experiencing personal, social, and emotional difficulties that may impede academic progress. The range of these services includes intake assessment, short term individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals to campus resources and outside campus providers.


Reporting to the Director of the Counseling Center and University Health Services, the Assistant Director for Outreach and Mental Health Promotion serves in a key administrative role overseeing outreach services, mental health promotion and assisting with budgeting, planning and implementing continuous quality improvement strategies, as well as representing the Center in the University community and providing coverage for the Director when needed.  Specific duties include:  providing leadership in reaching out to students; evaluating student needs and experience; reaching out to faculty and staff to support their support of students mental health and success; and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Doctorate in a Professional Psychology related area 

Minimum of two years of post-licensure clinical experience, preferably in a university counseling center setting.

Previous clinical supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications: 

Demonstrated supervisory, administrative and program management experience.

Demonstrated proficiency in and a commitment to multicultural competence and experience working with individuals from culturally diverse populations, as well as underrepresented and/or underserved populations. 

Demonstrated understanding and clinical application of the intersectionality of identity and mental health.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Strongly Preferred:

Strong consultation skills with campus and/or key stakeholders;

Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.

Experience/expertise in working with communities of color.
