Responsibilities:

The incumbent will provide robust research data-related training, support, and consultation for UMBC faculty, staff, and students from all disciplines. Specific duties include: 

  • Develop and guide the Library’s efforts to support faculty, staff and students in the areas of: data management planning, discovery and access of research data, data sharing and publication, and data visualization
  • Serve as subject librarian for the departments of Computer Science, Economics, Information Systems, Math, and Physics, providing instruction, research support, and outreach to the students and faculty within these departments and collection development in these subject areas
  • Provide reference services (in-person, chat, email), with occasional nights and weekends
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited program (Fall 2018 graduates will be considered)
  • Background in, or substantial experience working with, quantitative and/or qualitative research data
  • Experience with statistical software (such as SPSS and SAS)
  • Demonstrated strong service orientation
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in providing dynamic library instruction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment
  • Evidence of professional initiative and flexibility
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Reference and instruction experience in an academic setting
  • Experience with scientific programming (such as R, Python, or Scala)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (such as Tableau)
  • An undergraduate or second master’s degree in a STEM or social science field, or experience working as a subject librarian in these areas

Salary & Benefits:

Position is a 12-month library faculty appointment at anticipated rank of Librarian I. Salary is commensurate with experience, starting at $48,000.
