Off-Campus Student Services is a Department within the Division of Student Affairs that offers services, programs, and academic and social support to commuters, transfers, veterans, and adult learners. The mission of OCSS is to meet the diverse needs of UMBC students who live off-campus and to support their social and academic development. 

Responsibilities:

 

The Coordinator for Commuter Engagement will support the priorities of the Division of Student Affairs and Off-Campus Student Services by contributing to the growth and development of commuting students. The incumbent helps students engage in self-directed learning, connect with campus resources, and participate in educational programs and support services. Specific duties include: supervising and developing student staff; coordinating off-campus students’ leadership and involvement programs; serving as an event manager for large scale campus events; managing a programming budget; contributing to assessment efforts; using social media and other print and web technology to market to college students; and performing other duties as assigned.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree in higher education or a related field, preferred). Must have knowledge of college student development theory and practice.  Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, customer service, organizational and time management skills required. Must be proficient in collaborating with and motivating college students to engage in campus life. Must have the ability to interact effectively with broad campus constituents and community college partners. Requires proficiency with common office software and social media platforms.

Preferred Qualifications: 

An understanding of the commuter process, academic demands/expectations preferred.

Understanding of the collegiate academic environment and student peer mentorship is highly desired.
