The Columbus Center, located in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor at 701 E. Pratt Street, Baltimore, Maryland, is operated and managed by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). 

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible for managing and overseeing the Columbus Center's procurement activities.

Specific duties include:

  • Effectively understanding and communicating the University’s different procurement methods Columbus Center Operations staff and vendors
  • Developing, managing and improving internal departmental purchasing processes, including clarifying requirements for purchases
  • Investigating alternate sources of supply which could benefit the University
  • Managing the vendor payment process to pay invoices on a procurement credit card or against purchase orders/contracts in place; this also includes, getting the appropriate approvals, entering it into the UMBC Paw Procurement System, tracking expenses against all purchase orders and contracts, providing updated projected expenses each month to the Director of Administration for budget projection purposes
  • Tracking, interpreting and analyzing cost accounting and budget data to identify potential opportunities for strategic sourcing opportunities and partnerships
  • Performing other duties as assigned

This position will initially have one direct report.  

Required Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor's Degree preferably in business or a related field and three years (five preferred) of experience in procurement, legal, or business related field.   One year (two preferred) of supervisory or team leader experience required.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in higher education or government procurement
  • Experience with facilities, administration and operations, including supply management
  • Experience with a procurement credit card program
  • Experience with Jaeggar e-Procurement system or similar
  • Experience with People Soft Finance as well as cost accounting and budgeting principles
