Responsibilities:

The general nature of work will be to maintain field equipment, perform data QA/QC, process field samples, and conduct hydrologic analysis in support of urban hydrology projects. This relates to the mission of CUERE to advance the understanding of the environmental, social and economic consequences of the transformation of the urban landscape.

Responsibilities include: prepares equipment for field and deploys equipment to field sites; maintains field equipment and performs data download to laptop or handheld; drives to field sites as required; collects field samples and carries out laboratory processing of field samples; assists faculty and graduate students with field experiments; organizes and analyzes data on UMBC computers using a variety of software tools; and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in environmental science, hydrology, geology, civil/environmental engineering or related field.  MS degree preferred.

The person holding this position must be willing to work outdoors year-round under a range of temperature, humidity, insect, and vegetation conditions. The person must be willing to walk across natural terrain  (including floodplains and sometimes steep rocky hills) to deploy and access field equipment, including walking across and in short stream segments in waterproof boots. The field work will often require stooping, bending, and balancing. Lifting and carrying small loads significant distances (pieces of field equipment typically under 20 pounds) will occasionally be required.

Use of handheld carpentry tools (hammer, saw, screwdriver, drill, wire cutters) will be required to build simple custom equipment and platforms for purchased equipment. Ability to download information from data loggers to handheld or laptop computers, reset data loggers, and maintain electrical power at field sites (solar panels/batteries/wiring) will be required. Preparation of chemical tracer solutions for laboratory calibrations may be required. 

A driver's license is required. Must be willing to drive to field sites using own vehicle when project vehicle is not available (mileage will be reimbursed).

Preferred Qualifications: 

 Master's degree preferred.
