Responsibilities:

The Financial Aid Counselor provides guidance to students and parents regarding federal, State and institutional aid options. The Counselor is responsible for processing financial aid records and determining student eligibility.

The Counselor is responsible for counseling and advising current and prospective students and their families on the federal, State and institutional financial aid programs, and assisting with the removal of barriers to receive educational funding. With a student-centered focus, the Counselor provides information on policies, procedures and eligibility of financial aid programs. 

Specific duties include: analyze and process student financial aid records including federal verification, certification of loans, awarding grants, evaluating/reviewing student files and reconciling student accounts; participate in orientation programs, outreach and awareness events on and off campus; act as the lead for one or more financial aid programs; and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Skill in the use of personal computer and related software applications
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Organization and coordination skills
  • Ability to interpret and implement policies and procedures
