Position Overview:

The Psychologist provides services designed to promote the mental health and well-being of our campus and support students’ academic and personal success through mental health services and promotion, training and consultation. UMBC counseling staff are responsible for providing counseling services for students experiencing personal, social and emotional difficulties that may impede academic progress.

Responsibilities:

Direct Clinical Services

  • Assess and treat mental health concerns via triages, single session  therapy, time-limited individual counseling and group counseling
  • Assist students with mental health needs including, but not limited to, referral to community resources and facilitating access to higher level of care (e.g. coordination of discharge planning)
  • Consult with faculty, staff, students and family members who are concerned about a student
  • Cover daytime and after hours on-call crisis services
  • Clinical documentation and case-related administrative tasks, meetings, committees and other duties as assigned
  • Coordinate an area of service
  • Provide mental health promotion and outreach services
  • Contribute to the training and supervision of RIH trainees
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
  • Two years of experience in the provision of mental health care to adolescents and/or young adults
  • Must have license as a Psychologist in Maryland, or be Maryland-license eligible within the first year of employment
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience in college mental health, including crisis assessment, brief interventions and treatment, group therapy and referral coordination
  • Two years experience with clinical case management/referral coordination
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with clinical case management
  • Administrative and computer application skills required to effectively use and maintain a case management and tracking system
  • Demonstrated skill in prioritization and management of multiple concurrent clinical situations and ability to coordinate these efforts as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Flexibility to manage the professional demands of the position
  • Collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect and trust towards colleagues
  • Demonstrated value, appreciation and sensitivity to individuals’ and communities’ cultures and proven ability to interact with diverse populations
  • Self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ethics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Salary:

Salary: $81,000 - $90,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
