University Marketing within the Division of University Communication and Marketing (UCM) is responsible for developing and implementing marketing plans intended to help the university reach its strategic goals. University Marketing works in partnership with administrative and academic units across campus to promote the UMBC brand, attract students, and position the university among key stakeholders and constituents. |
Position Overview: |
The Arts Management Specialist will support UMBC's efforts to raise the visibility of its programs and public events in the visual and performing arts. Through marketing and communications, the Arts Management Specialist will develop new audiences for events and will strengthen engagement with existing audiences. Working across divisional lines with the university's arts departments and centers, Institutional Advancement, Student Affairs and other units, the Arts Management Specialist will facilitate campus partnerships leading to the success of public arts events, and will provide key planning and tactical support for those public arts events. This position reports directly to the Director of Arts and Culture within the Division of University Communications and Marketing (UCM).

Telework: |
A hybrid telework schedule may be available.

Responsibilities: |
- Produce material designed to promote events and engage audiences, including advertising copy, feature stories, calendar posts, social media posts, and event descriptions.

Determine schedules for the development of digital and print advertising, working with an in-house graphic design team, and ensure the timely delivery of those assets to external advertising outlets.
- Pitch events and story ideas to local and regional media.

Create and implement strategies to develop internal and external audiences, including the campus community (students, faculty, staff), and the community in the greater Baltimore area, including K-12 students.

Facilitate the success of visits by visual and performing artists by working with them and/or their representatives to ensure contractual needs are fulfilled.

Provide expertise to arts departments and centers to ensure the success of their public events, and establish and monitor a workflow that ensures artist and event information flows from those departments and centers to communications, marketing, and advancement staff.

Required Minimum Qualifications: |
- Bachelor's degree
- Five years of experience working in marketing or communications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Master's degree in arts administration, an arts discipline, or a related field
- Five years experience working in marketing or communications for an arts or cultural organization.
- Experience working in an arts or cultural organization.
- Experience in audience development in the visual and performing arts.
- Understanding of contemporary art and cultural trends.
- Advertising and email copywriting experience.

Salary: |
Salary: $61,000 - $67,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
