Position Overview:

Lead and manage the daily operations of key campus service areas in The Commons at UMBC by providing exceptional customer service and fostering a high-performing, inclusive student employee team. This dynamic role requires strong project management, facility oversight, and effective collaboration with campus partners to ensure smooth operations.

Telework:

Responsibilities:

The primary duties and responsibilities of this position can be grouped into the following core areas:

Daily Operations & Coordination

  • The facilities coordinators team oversees the day-to-day operations of the Commons Operations, Campus Information Center, and Game Room units.

  • Perform minor maintenance and repair work, and procure/maintain building furniture and event resources.

  • Coordinate emergency response efforts and deliver safety training to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Assist in drafting, researching, advising, updating, and codifying building Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Student Employee Leadership

  • Develop and maintain an inclusive student employment program (hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and developing staff).

  • Develop task lists for student employees to ensure efficient use of time based on events and projects.

Customer Service & Collaboration

  • Provide high-quality customer service through visibility, accessibility, and active listening to the diverse campus community and external partners.

  • Exhibit a strong team-centered work ethic focused on transparent, structured, and inclusive communication.

  • Collaborate with campus partners and service providers to facilitate solution-oriented engagement and deliver meaningful results.

Project & Administrative Management

  • Manage small and mid-scale projects involving internal and external partners, balancing competing priorities.

  • Prepare occasional project reports, including budgetary proposals/needs.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree.
  • At least one year of experience in a higher education or facilities management-related setting.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs comfortably, carrying and
    installing heavy equipment.
  • Shift consists of evenings and weekends during the school semester, and daytime shifts during the Summer/Winter
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience supervising student staff.

Salary:

Salary: $54,000 - $57,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
