Under the supervision of the Acquisitions Manager, the Ordering Technician/Library Services Technician prepares orders for all formats of monographic materials. The incumbent will assist in retrieving purchase requests through UMBC RT and GOBI selections, as well as use established procedures to receive books from our primary vendors and process invoices in Aleph, the library management system. The incumbent is expected to be able to identify and appropriately handle routine problem orders and to follow-up on orders by claiming, canceling, re-ordering as appropriate and updating requestors when needed. Performs other duties as assigned including cross-departmental projects. Participates in Library, University, and University System of Maryland committees as appropriate. Participates in professional development activities such as training and workshops.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years experience directly related to the primary duties of the position
  • Adaptability in using common computing, productivity and information discovery tools, and library software to input and retrieve information
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and staff

Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Must be highly organized and carefully attentive to detail
  • Ability to work independently and exercise initiative in applying rules, procedures and instructions
  • Demonstrated knowledge/ability to learn common computer programs and software (Word, Excel, UMBC RT, etc.)
  • Must be able to learn new and emerging library methods and skills; ability to learn and apply library policies and practices related to access and use of information resources

Salary: Pay Range 07 (starting at $34,977) based on the University System of Maryland Pay Program

This is a full-time position Monday to Friday. Work schedule is subject to change, based on changes in library hours and staffing needs. Telework hours available.
