Position Overview:

Within the Early Childhood Learning initiative, we house UMBC HIPPY. “HIPPY’s mission is to help parents prepare their children for success in school and beyond. The model supports parents as their children’s first teacher by providing them the tools, skills, and confidence to teach their young children in the home.” - HIPPY US

The Program Coordinator will serve as the primary liaison among schools, the community, UMBC, and the Family League of Baltimore. They oversee the day-to-day operation of the HIPPY program, including staffing and training, participant recruitment, delivery of participant group enrichment meetings, and budget management. The incumbent will sponsor community programming to promote early learning on a periodic basis and maintain a steady presence in the community as a resource and partner. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for leading the Arundel Early Childhood Collaborative in partnership with members of the Judy Center, Arundel Elementary, Cherry Hill Strong and local childcare providers.

Responsibilities:
  • Community Organization: Organize monthly Arundel Early Childhood Collaborative meetings, including serving as the main point of contact for logistics and community outreach and requests.
  • Supervision: Hire, train, and oversee home visiting staff (three C1 employees), who provide parents with support, instruction, motivation, inspiration, and guidance for child education in the home, Conduct periodic home visits to observe and coach home visiting staff
  • Program Management: Manage Home Instruction for Parents Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program in accordance with the terms specified by HIPPY US, Recruit and select eligible children/families to participate in the program
  • Partner Program Relationships: Plan HIPPY and Family League site visits; Establish partnerships with other human services organizations to optimize wrap-around service delivery to participating families; Participate in local/regional and national HIPPY conferences and meetings
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education (early childhood or elementary), social work, or a related field. If the degree is not education related, applicants must have a minimum of 24-hours of training in early childhood development.
  • Strong commitment to and understanding of early childhood and child/family development;
  • A demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to diversity, low-income communities, and high-needs schools;
  • A strong ability to work independently and collaboratively with administrators, teachers/faculty, and staff
  • Ability to forge strong partnerships and develop a spirit of teamwork;
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience in social services, customer service, parent empowerment/family support, or child/family advocacy
  • 2+ years of experience in program management
  • At least 1 year of supervisory OR leadership experience
  • Experience working in or with an early learning center/setting
  • Training/workshop development and delivery skills
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills
  • Conversational Spanish language skills.

Salary:

Salary: $59,000 - $66,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
