Position Overview:

The Director of Executive and Internal Communications within the University Communications and Marketing (UCM) division is responsible for the development, coordination, and execution of presidential and internal communications.

Responsibilities:

The Director of Executive and Internal Communications within the University Communications and Marketing (UCM) division is responsible for the development, coordination, and execution of presidential and internal communications.

The incumbent will work closely with the president, chief of staff, and executive assistant. They will support the president’s communications through writing, editing, and subject research, lead the University Communications and Marketing internal communications team and provide strategic guidance, particularly to the university’s senior leadership team, for campus communication. In addition, they will be a key member of crisis communications planning and execution, helping to advise senior leadership on communications during times of crisis and/or emergency.

The Director of Executive and Internal Communications will collaborate with colleagues across the university and University System of Maryland on strategic communications to ensure an informed and engaged campus community. They will be a communications professional, actively engaged in the discipline, while staying informed of new developments and opportunities in strategic communications and to incorporate new practices to increase the effectiveness of the university’s communications activity.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree 
  • 5+ years of communications experience
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Experience in content creation and delivery
  • Experience in managing internal communications tools
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the institution including executive leaders
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Advanced degree
  • Project management experience
  • A strong understanding or experience working in higher education administration
