Position Overview: Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Research, the Grants Writer and Development Specialist will support research and creative achievement initiatives and processes within the College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT). The successful candidate will have a proven track record in grants development, grant writing and/or grant administration in a higher education or non-profit environment. Collaborating with the COEIT - SSC pre-award team, the incumbent will enhance and expand the sponsored award services provided to COEIT faculty and staff. This position will help faculty identify internal and external funding opportunities; coordinate interdisciplinary and multi institution
proposals; assist with drafting, formatting, and editing proposals; organize and/or develop training; and
implement processes and procedures.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement repositories, processes and procedures to facilitate proposal development and submission, including developing standard templates and checklists that are part of standard proposal requirements by agencies.
  • Organize and manage the grant proposal submission, including identifying and curating a repository of internal and external funding opportunities that align with faculty research interests and communicating with faculty and the Office of Sponsored Programs, shared service.
  • Provide direct support with proofreading and formatting proposals to ensure compliance with sponsor requirements for large projects or center level proposals.
  • Coordinate and conduct research related to needs assessment and background information for proposal development process, including compiling institutional data and drafting relevant non-technical/scientific sections of the proposal.
  • Develop and maintain college level sponsored award activity reports. Assist in preparing a college grants portfolio for sharing with external partners. Provide support for major grant related events such as annual meetings or site visits for major centers in COEIT.
  • Organize, facilitate and/or develop sponsored research related training, workshops for faculty and other research administration staff.
  • Work with the faculty and the responsible central offices as needed to support with processes or documentation related to conflict of interest, export control, training, animal use, intellectual property, human subjects, etc.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in English, communications, Journalism, Marketing, Scientific or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in grant writing and/or grant development in STEM fields. Consideration will also be given to any combination of experience equivalent to three years in the areas of grant development or grant monitoring.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong research, data analysis, problem solving, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and execute complex instructions.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master's Degree or PhD, preferably in STEM or a related scientific discipline. Degrees in English,
    Communications, Journalism, Marketing or other related fields also may be considered
