Position Overview:

Under general supervision, performs locksmith work that includes electronic and mechanical devices. Installs, repairs and maintains locks, locking systems, door closures and locking devices on all types of doors and equipment. Repairs electronic handicap automatic door operators and modifies building hardware to comport with card access system to include installing micro-electronic switches as part of the campus-wide security system.

Responsibilities:
  • Installs, repairs, rebuilds, test and opens mechanical and electronic locks, locking systems, door closures and locking devices.
  • Repairs computerized electronic doors operators.
  • Customizes over-the-counter locking hardware to comport to the campus-wide computerized card access system.
  • Maintains elaborate five-stage campus-wide master key system.
  • Installs low-voltage electric door strikes including transformer installation and wiring.
  • Participates in security design meetings to provide design specifications on renovations and new construction.
  • Disassembles locks, repairs or replaces worn tumblers, springs and other parts. Inserts new or repaired tumblers into locks to change combination.
  • Maintains extensive and complex records of campus security system. Prepares departmental reports.
  • Provides guidance and training to other maintenance personnel. May have lead responsibility on special projects.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Five years progressively responsible experience in the locksmith trade including maintenance of automatic door operators and involving electro-magnetic key access systems.
  • Valid Driver's License
