Undergraduate Program Coordinator/General Associate

The Department of Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering is part of The College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT) at UMBC. We currently offer a variety of degrees and certificates for undergraduate and graduate students, including a B.S. in chemical engineering with three tracks; traditional, biochemical and environmental. We also offer an M.S. and Ph.D. in environmental engineering, as well as an applied certificate program in biochemical regulatory engineering.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Undergraduate Recruiting and Retention
    • Develop outreach strategies to identify potential partnerships with area high schools and community colleges, focusing on chemical engineering 
    • Develop materials used in the promotion of CBEE and recruitment of prospective students
    • Create and implement advertising campaigns utilizing both digital and traditional media channels (e.g., social media, email marketing, textline, direct mail) for the purpose of recruitment and retention
    • Plan, implement and coordinate recruitment events, both online and in person, both on campus and off
    • Speak at recruitment events
    • Plan, implement and coordinate CBEE department tours for prospective students
    • Maintain orderly electronic records of participation and points of contact for each outreach event
    • Direct Student Ambassador Program
    • Promote and manage CBEE’s Summer Enrichment Academy (SEA) program
  • Undergraduate Program Coordination
    • Provide administrative support to Undergraduate Program Director
  • Attend Undergraduate Committee meetings to present data, provide updates on recruiting or take notes
  • Oversee, manage and analyze CBEE course scheduling
  •  Advising
    • Point of contact for CBEE students in signing up for advisement and for registration issues
    • Liaison to the Registrar's Office for CBEE students
    • Coordinate graduation reviews
  • Petitions
    • First point of contact for students to clarify petition process and assist with necessary documents
    • Responsible for ensuring the Undergraduate Committee receives complete petitions
  • Departmental Administrative Support
    • Responsible for departmental P card
    • Responsible for departmental D card
    • Provide support to Exec. Admin.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or related Bachelor of Science field. Degrees in English or other related fields also may be considered

  • Experience executing marketing strategies across various channels, including social media, email and digital advertising
  • Excellent verbal communication, especially to high school and community college student populations

  • Excellent written communication and customer service skills

  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems

  • Knowledge of digital/graphics software such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Express, etc.                                                

  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • High level of experience with Google Workspace

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience in undergraduate administration and/or recruitment.  Consideration also will be given in the areas of public relations, marketing, and/or university administration
  • A strong understanding of and experience in the higher education market including recruitment, admissions and retention

  • Basic knowledge of HTML helpful or willingness to learn
