Position Overview:

The Business Services Specialist in the Financial Services Office provides executive level support to the Associate Vice President of Administration and Finance as well as the Assistant Vice President & Controller of Financial Services. This position acts as departmental staff resource offering operational and business support. The incumbent will also act as liaison with the campus community ensuring accurate direction to community inquiries.

Telework:

Responsibilities:

Specific duties include:

  • Providing executive level support to the Associate Vice President of Administration and Finance as well as the Assistant Vice President & Controller of Financial Services
  • Assisting the Associate Vice President & Assistant Vice President as well as any of their direct reports in coordinating meetings with the UMBC campus community as well as external stakeholders 
  • Acting as a departmental liaison to the campus community ensuring accurate direction to Financial Services related community inquiries
  • Providing data and research to the Associate Vice President, Assistant Vice President and their direct reports to aid in decision making or meeting presentations
  • Overseeing the department’s business processes, to include but not
    limited to accounts payable, journal entries, procurement, contract approvals, inventory control and acts as the human resources liaison
  • Updating and overseeing the Financial Services website and additional unit websites as assigned
  • Acting as a secondary support to the Administrative Shared Services Center, which is a part of the Financial Services department
  • In collaboration with the Office of Contract and Grant Accounting, processes sponsored award payments/deposits
  • Coordinating office maintenance, reserving and arranging meeting space on
    campus, overseeing collaborative departmental calendars and disseminating pertinent information to the department
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Six years progressively responsible experience in a combination of budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing and personnel work

Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
