Senior Classification and Compensation Specialist

The Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM) department is hiring a Senior Classification and Compensation Specialist. 

Position Overview:

This role will assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of UMBC's Classification and Compensation Programs.

Telework:

A hybrid work schedule (2 days telework, 3 in the office) may be available.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducts initial review, job analysis, and job evaluation of new, vacant, and filled position change requests including reclassifications, equity adjustments, in-grade adjustments, acting capacity pay requests, and salary range updates and confirmations.
  • Develops written reports of findings for standard roles and-determines classification and compensation based upon research conducted and the best available balance of evidence.  
  • Assists in the formulation of recommendations regarding the development and updating of salary structures, FLSA exemptions, job revisions, and organizational structures as needed
  • Conducts costing and provides recommendations
  • Completes salary data requests
  • Reviews and approves standard studies independently
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five years of general Human Resources experience, at least two related to compensation/classification
  • Advanced experience in Excel with proven ability to analyze complex data sets
  • Strong analytical and data manipulation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and written/ verbal communication skills
  • Proficient knowledge of current compensation practices and trends
    Strong customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • One year of experience the State of MD Classification and Compensation policies
  • One year of experience with the compilation and assessment of salary data
  • Strong customer service skills interacting with senior leadership
  • Experience in creative problem solving related to complex classification/compensation requests
