Position Overview:

The Business Manager is responsible for managing the Library & Gallery’s business and administrative infrastructure in compliance with appropriate UMBC policies and procedures. This includes budget oversight for personnel and operating, human resources and payroll. This position oversees the Library Foundation accounts. This position is also responsible for the Library Facilities Management and building/equipment procurement. Other administrative duties include the preparation of statistical reports, administrative communications and working with donors. This position supervises the Accounting & Receiving unit as well as the Human Resources/Payroll Preparer staff (two direct staff reports and two indirect staff reports).

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provides budget oversight by assisting and advising the Library Director and Library Executive Council on the Library budget administration.
  • Works with UMBC Financial Services on budget preparation during the budget cycle.
  • Ensures the Library adheres to appropriate University policies, procedures and audit compliance requirements related to budget administration.
  • Oversight of various Library and Gallery accounts, including the Library and Gallery Foundation accounts.
  • Oversees and coordinates Human Resources matters and processes, including payroll, recruitment, orientation and staff development.
  • Manages the Library building and equipment, including inventory, procurement, safety and security.
  • Prepares required statistics reports.
  • Serves as the administrator for Library grants.
  • Works with Library donors.
  • Supervises the Accounting & Receiving unit and the Human Resources/Payroll Preparer staff.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Business Management, Finance, Public Administration or a related field
  • Three years of professional experience in a combination of budgeting, accounting, payroll or financial management/administration
  • Understanding of business practices applied to an academic library or higher education setting
  • Advanced knowledge of business management, accounting and reporting principles
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft and Google suites
