Position Overview:

The Rita Rossi Colwell Center Operations is seeking an Accounting Associate to provide accounting and administrative support for its Shared Services Operations.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available after completion of a probationary period. 

Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, the Accounting Associate provides complex administrative support. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Places and expedites small procurement orders and processes and distributes requisitions, purchase orders and other necessary documents in the UMBC Procurement System (PAW).
  • Utilizes the State Purchasing Card to place orders. Verifies completeness, accuracy and consistency of data and related tracking reports in departmental shadow accounting system (Cayuse) and various payment tracking reports. Enters encumbrances into the departmental shadow accounting system, and researches periodic encumbrance reports in order to maintain accurate budget projections and financial reports for the department.
  • Research and resolve vendor payment problems.
  • Ensure payments are made to the correct account and processed in a timely manner.
  • Perform various Accounts Payable/Receivable functions.
  • Prepare cash receipts for submission to Student Business Services as needed for review and approval by the Business or Office Manager.
  • Process biweekly payroll.
  • Process travel requests and reimbursements. Make travel arrangements for personnel, prepare associated travel documents, initiate pre-approval authorizations and submit reimbursements per operating requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Four years accounting clerical experience. Customer service experience and/or cash handling and payment processing experience.

Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Strong knowledge in accounting/finance and procurement operations, practices and procedures
  • This position must be able to prioritize workload and establish systems to ensure prompt completion and follow through

Salary: Pay Range 09 (starting at $46,736) based on the University System of Maryland Pay Program
Hours: Full-time (Monday through Friday)
Type: Contractual (Contingent II)
Additional Information: Please note that this is a full-time contractual staff position. The contract term will be for a one-year period, with the option to renew.
