The Sherman STEM Teacher Scholars Program was established in 2006 to recruit and prepare predominantly Science, Technology, Engineering and Math majors pursuing teacher certification for urban and diverse classrooms and to improve retention of those teachers in those schools. In 2012, we initiated a formal school partnership at Lakeland Elementary/Middle School with the goals of improving student outcomes and providing meaningful pre-service and in-service teacher development, and in 2017 we initiated the UMBC Math Project, which promotes equitable math learning and achievement for Baltimore students through extended learning opportunities and continuous improvement professional development for educators.

Position Overview:

Program Coordinator to serve as a Site Coordinator for the Reach Together Tutoring Program (RTTP), housed in the Sherman Scholars Program. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Math Initiatives the incumbent will play a critical role in implementing and sustaining RTTP at local partner schools. RTTP is a comprehensive academic acceleration math program that combines high-dosage tutoring, delivered by UMBC student-tutors, with professional development to help all students access and master rigorous, grade-level concepts

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will oversee school-based aspects of RTTP, including the following:

  • Overseeing “student-tutor” staff (i.e. hiring, training, supervision and mentoring/coaching).
  • Monitoring curriculum and observing, reviewing and providing feedback to tutors on curriculum implementation.
  • Maintaining positive relationships with school-based staff, including coaches, teachers and tutees.
  • Organizing and maintaining excellent records of program implementation and collection of weekly engagement data to support program evaluation and grant reporting.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in an education related field
  • At least one full year of experience working with youth-serving programs
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • 2+ years of experience in program management
  • At least 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Tutoring/teaching experience
  • Experience working in or with PreK- 12 schools
  • Experience teaching primary and secondary math
