The Meyerhoff Scholars Program has been at the forefront of efforts to increase diversity among future leaders in science, engineering and related fields. The UMBC Meyerhoff family is now more than 1,700 strong with over 1,400 alumni across the nation, which includes over 300 students enrolled in graduate and professional programs. The Program is open to prospective undergraduate students of all backgrounds who plan to pursue a PhD or the combined MD-PhD in the sciences or engineering and who are interested in the advancement of minorities in those fields. The program’s success is built on the premise that, among like-minded students who work closely together, positive energy is contagious. By assembling such a high concentration of high-achieving students in a tightly knit learning community, students continually inspire one another to do more and better. The program has been recognized by the National Science Foundation and The New York Times as a national model. 

Position Overview:

The Administrative Assistant II provides administrative support to the unit Director, staff and constituent groups of the Meyerhoff Scholars Program.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate Program Director's and Program Events calendar and provide administrative support to the unit
  • Schedule on- and off-campus space, catering and associated needs for the program and constituent groups
  • Schedule unit staff meetings and maintain notes
  • Coordinate travel for program staff, student participants and support/coordinate visits of guests and partners to campus
  • Serve as primary point contact for unit, open and close office, answer phones and greet guests
  • Maintain shared office equipment (copier/printer, lobby flat screen and content, etc.)
  • Serve as unit steward for inventory, cloud stored files and Google Groups (email)
  • Support program leadership in Human Resources efforts (recruitment, onboarding, separation, etc.)
  • Supervise student workers
  • Support colleagues and day-to-day program operations through a variety of efforts and events related to scholar recruitment and selection, student engagement, support and well-being and alumni and parent engagement
  • Purchase supplies, equipment, goods, etc. 
  • Serve as unit's backup payroll preparer
  • Process petty cash reimbursements, payment requests and travel reimbursements
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years experience providing administrative support.

 

Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Associates degree (AA) or some higher education
  • Administrative experience in education, non-profit or business services

Salary:

Pay Range 09 (minimum: $46,736 maximum:  $77,077) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program.   

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience.   Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range. 

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
