The Office of Faculty Affairs is responsible for facilitating the recruitment, development and retention of faculty members and increasing the diversity of our faculty.

Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at UMBC will direct a variety of campus-wide programmatic initiatives and will lead on institutional processes to recruit, retain, and advance a diverse and inclusive faculty. In this role, the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs will also provide expertise to senior administrators to develop and reshape campus policies and practices to promote inclusive excellence.

Responsibilities:

Working with the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with administrators, campus constituents, and external constituents to advance UMBC's commitment to increase faculty diversity and inclusive excellence.
  • Contribute to and administer programming related to faculty diversity initiatives.
  • Collect and analyze data and envision strategies to recruit, maintain, and promote faculty members at UMBC.
  • Oversee the administration of UMBC's Faculty Diversity Initiative, ADVANCE Program, Postdoctoral Fellows for Faculty Diversity Program, the Eminent Scholar Mentor Program, and the On-Ramps to Full Professor Program.
  • Provide support to the Provost's ADVANCE Executive Committee, the Committee on the Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement of Underrepresented Minority Faculty, UMBC's Faculty Affinity Groups, and STRIDE.
  • Maintain an accurate record of full-time faculty titles, ranks, primary and secondary affiliations, and other key elements of faculty employment status to support faculty advancement.
  • Build strategic partnerships across campus to support and enhance UMBC faculty development.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters' Degree
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Knowledge of methods for advancing faculty members' professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with faculty members, administrators, and staff members in all disciplines and at all levels
  • Commitment to recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Ph.D.
  • Three to five years experience
  • Experience working in a faculty environment
  • Grant writing
  • Strong record of teaching, research, service, and academic leadership
  • Demonstrated contributions to UMBC's mission, vision, and values

Salary:

Salary: $143,000 - $160,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
