Residential Life provides facilities, services, and programs that support the academic mission of the institution and enhance the quality of life for students living on campus. Residential Life staff foster the personal, social, academic, and leadership development of resident students and prepare them to be active and responsible citizens within the UMBC community and beyond. Position Overview:

The Community Director (CD) position at UMBC is a full-time, year-round, live-in professional staff position that provides comprehensive leadership to a residential community for a student population of 320-580 students, depending on the assigned community. The CD role is critical in developing inclusive and responsible residential communities at UMBC.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available.

Responsibilities:
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive residential environment by planning and implementing educational, cultural, and social programming that supports student development and engagement.
  • Promote a sense of belonging and community by building meaningful relationships with residents and encouraging their active participation in community life.
  • Provide individualized support to residents, manage conflict resolution, and respond effectively to emergency situations while adhering to University protocols.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of Resident Assistants, promoting their growth through regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee day-to-day operational aspects of the residential community, including occupancy management, room assignments, and coordination of check-in/check-out processes.
  • Serve as the primary on-call staff member for crisis response and conflict resolution, ensuring effective communication and support for residents.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Required
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel Services, Counseling, or a related area strongly preferred
  • Previous full-time or graduate residence life experience
  • Prior live-in residential life experience strongly desired
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and actively working towards the creation of an inclusive community
  • Commitment to assuming leadership in a diverse, high-energy environment requiring ability to consistently manage multiple simultaneous priorities
  • Understanding of non-traditional work hours within Residence Life as well as maintaining a presence in the community
  • Experience with a residential curriculum or restorative practices

Salary:

Salary: $49,000 - $55,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
