The Department of Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management is the campus resource center for providing professional services and information in the areas of employment, benefits, compensation and classification, training and development, payroll, employee relations, policy, administration, and human resources data management and reporting.

Position Overview: |
The HR Specialist I will have responsibilities in the Benefits & Wellness unit, including assisting employees with questions related to health benefits, tuition remission, HR New Hire Orientation, Wellness, and retirement.

Telework: |
A hybrid telework schedule may be available. (Possible remote work of two days per week after training is completed.)

Responsibilities: |
- Schedule, coordinate, and present material in HR New Hire Orientation, using various reports and tools, i.e. Webex, PageUp, Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel.
- Assist employees with forms and processes related to enrolling/changing health benefits and retirement plans, as well as tuition remission.
- Completing and submitting mandatory State pension enrollment forms.
- This role will share the responsibility of answering campus inquiries via walk-ins, phone calls, and emails sent to the shared email box for the unit.
- This position will assist with the coordination of all Wellness activities.
- This role will ensure confidentiality and understand the need for confidentiality with protected information (PII and PHI) under HIPAA.

Required Minimum Qualifications: |
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in human resources management or a related area.
- Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
- One year of experience in Human Resources or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Required to obtain State of Maryland Agency Benefits Coordinator certification within 3 months of being hired into the position.
- Required to obtain State Pension Retirement Coordinator certification within 3 months of being hired into the position.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and Google Sheets.
- Experience creating documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures and User guides.
- State of Maryland health benefits experience and/or
- Maryland State Retirement & Pension experience.

Salary: |
Pay Range 11 (minimum: $49,582 maximum: $81,782) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
