Position Overview:

The Director acts as the chief sponsored program accounting and reporting officer for the University under the direction of the Assistant Vice President and Controller for Financial Services. The position is responsible to direct, plan, organize and prepare all external and general internal financial reports specific to sponsored programs for the University.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available. 

Responsibilities:
  • Directs the operations of the Office of Contract and Grant Accounting, including financial compliance, the recruitment, hiring, supervision and mentoring of the OCGA staff.
  • Develops and maintains OCGA policies, procedures and operational systems for the flow of sponsored awards.
  • Acts as the key liaison to Office of Sponsored Programs, Deans, Chairs, Directors, Administration & Finance, Office of the General Counsel and other offices on and off campus.
  • Manages information resources, databases and periodic managerial and operational reports on the status of sponsored award activities.
  • Directs the continuous improvement efforts of the PeopleSoft Finance Grants modules.
  • Develops and delivers training, technical assistance and education regarding all aspects of sponsored awards to the UMBC community.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • 10 years progressive experience in financial compliance, accounting, and sponsored award management.
  • 5 years of direct supervisory experience.
  • Project management skills.
  • Experience implementing new emerging technologies.
  • Experience in giving presentations and trainings, both in person and in virtual settings.
  • Experience in strategic planning.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Advanced Degree; Four years of experience above the minimum may be used as advance degree equivalent.
  • Experience in Higher Education.

Salary:

Salary: $126,000 - 142,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
