Position Overview:

Under general supervision, this position performs semi-skilled electrical maintenance tasks, specifically concentrating on low-level electrical work such as changing light bulbs, replacing ballasts, troubleshooting minor electrical malfunctions, and other associated tasks.  This position plays a critical role in ensuring proper light functionality throughout campus buildings and facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical lighting systems, ensuring proper operation of fixtures, ballasts, and bulbs.
  • Troubleshoots and replaces defective lighting components, including ballasts, sockets, and LED drivers, ensuring compliance with electrical codes.
  • Maintains accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used in work orders.
  • Ensures compliance with safety protocols, including proper handling and disposal of electrical waste and hazardous materials.
  • Provides guidance and instruction to maintenance assistants and ensures adherence to established maintenance schedules.
  • Performs other maintenance-related duties as assigned, including minor repairs to facility infrastructure such as doors, locks, and fixtures.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Three years related work experience 
  • Maryland Class "C" driver's license
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • High School Diploma
  • Electrical Safety Training (NFPA 70E – Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace)

Salary:

Pay Range 07 (minimum: $44,053 maximum: $70,368) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program.

Facilities Management provides free uniforms and shoes for skilled trades positions.  Tools are provided for use on the job as well as a UMBC owned vehicle to travel to worksites on campus.   UMBC also assists with keeping trades licenses current and obtaining needed training.  Opportunities for shift differential, on-call, and overtime pay may be available. 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
