The Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars Program is one of UMBC's seven "Scholars Programs," which are opportunities and communities for high-achieving undergraduates that combine scholarships with thematic special coursework, programming, and mentorship. The Sondheim Program serves students who are interested in addressing society's most pressing problems, especially through careers in public service.

Responsibilities: |
Under general supervision, the Administrative Assistant will provide administrative support to the Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars Program.
The incumbent will process and manage the program’s financial transactions to include:
- Creating, maintaining, monitoring, and reconciling financial accounts for the program;
- Preparing purchase requisitions and payment requests;
- Preparing student award paperwork;
- Ordering supplies and equipment; and,
- Maintaining purchasing card records.
Additional responsibilities and duties include:
- Providing logistical and planning support for program events;
- Preparing a weekly newsletter for students and assisting with preparation of other program correspondence, promotional materials, and reports, potentially including correspondence with current and prospective students;
- Assessing and refining existing record-keeping systems while maintaining the confidentiality of student, personnel and financial records;
- Ensuring the program website is up-to-date; and,
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
Depending on experience and familiarity with the Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars Program, this staff member may be offered (but not bound to accept) additional hours at select times assisting with scholarship application review or prospective student recruiting activities.

Required Minimum Qualifications: |
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing administrative support.
- General computer proficiency.
- Organized and detail-oriented.
- Exhibit good communication skills and willingness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications: |
Experience working at UMBC or at another higher education institution strongly preferred.
|

Salary: |
Pay Range 9 (Minimum: $22.41 to Maximum: $36.95) commensurate with qualifications and experience. Based on the University System of Maryland Pay Program
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Hours: |
Part-time (15-18 hours per week during Monday-Friday UMBC business hours, with flexibility regarding particular days and hours). Work will be mostly on-site, with some opportunities for remote work as permitted by supervisor. |
