The Office of Government Relations and Community Affairs (OGRCA) works to develop and implement the university’s governmental and political engagement strategy with federal, state, and local elected officials; key policymakers; and university neighbors. We also advocate for university priorities with governmental officials, local and national organizations, and other government entities on key legislative and policy issues.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Vice-President, the Community Affairs & Campus Specialist is responsible in working with the VP and the Office of Government Relations and Community Affairs team in supporting and growing the community affairs and campus activities of the Office of Government Relations and Community Affairs.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available. 

Responsibilities:
  • Organize events on campus at the direction of the Vice-President, including campus visits from elected officials, local community groups and schools, and other dignitaries.
  • Engage in proactive community outreach with businesses and residents at direction of the Vice-President and in cooperation with the Director of Community Affairs.
  • Help bridge the on-campus and off-campus needs and resources to help UMBC grow and build partnerships.
  • Together with the Director of Community Affairs, and under direction of the Vice-President, perform proactive community outreach including to local businesses, community leaders, and others to help grow relationships and partnership opportunities to grow the community presence on campus, and the campus presence within the community.
  • Represent Office of Government Relations and Community Affairs at events both on and off campus, including occasional evening and weekend events.
  • Together with the Vice-President, Coordinate campus visits from elected officials, community leaders, and local school officials.
  • Coordinate events on behalf of the Office of Government Relations and Community Affairs, including the annual Annapolis Reception.
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree
Experience Required:
  • Three years experience in community organizing or event planning
  • Demonstrated experience in partnerships

Note: Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications: 
Experience Preferred:
  • Knowledge navigating complex organizations

Salary:

Salary: $66,000 - $75,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
