Position Overview: |
The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Retriever Integrated Health is seeking a full-time Counselor position on our multidisciplinary team, providing a broad range of mental health services to support the diverse needs of UMBC’s undergraduate and graduate students, including those from underserved backgrounds. The clinician must demonstrate a nuanced understanding of complex psychological and developmental issues affecting students in a university setting.
Core responsibilities include individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, diagnostic assessment, outreach, and the supervision and training of mental health trainees and early career professionals across disciplines (e.g., psychology, social work, counseling). The position also involves interdisciplinary consultation and active participation in campus and community engagement efforts. One late clinical day per week (in-person or virtual) is required. Flexibility to engage in Student Affairs events, RIH retreats, and other community initiatives is essential.

Responsibilities: |
Direct Clinical Services to Students ● Conduct psychological assessments and formal diagnoses ● Provide individual and group therapy ● Facilitate risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis interventions ● Offer at least one late-day appointment per week (in-person or virtual) ● Cover daytime and after hours on-call crisis services
Supervision and Training ● Provide supervision to doctoral interns, externs, and/or early career professionals ● Facilitate interdisciplinary case discussions, seminars, and training sessions ● Contribute to the development of paraprofessional and peer support programs ● Support the development of paraprofessional student groups and peer educator training ● Participate in case conferences, training seminars, and multidisciplinary supervision
Administrative and Team-Based Contributions ● Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation ● Attend staff meetings, case consultations, and retreats ● Support evaluation, quality improvement, and strategic planning efforts within RIH ● Participate in campus-wide initiatives aligned with the Culture of CARE

Required Minimum Qualifications: |
Education Required: Successful candidate must have a master‘s degree in social work, clinical counseling or a related field.
Experience Required: 4 years of experience in the provision of mental health care to adolescents and/or young adults.
Licensure Required: Must have license as a Psychologist, Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor in Maryland or be Maryland license-eligible without further supervision within 3 months.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Experience in college mental health, including crisis assessment, brief interventions and treatment, group therapy, and referral coordination
- 2 years of experience with referral coordination

Salary: |
Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
