Residential Life (RL) is responsible for operating and maintaining the residential facilities as well as coordinating programs and services for approximately 4,000 students who live on-campus. We work to foster supportive and inclusive living-learning environments where residential students can belong, be well, and are able to succeed.

Position Overview:

The Director of Housing Services champions the residential experience by instilling a sound customer service philosophy and practice in the housing services team and broader residential life team for achieving inclusive and supportive living-learning environments where students can belong, be well, and are able to succeed. The Director provides overall leadership, strategic planning, administrative-functional oversight, and supervision to the housing services team and day to day housing operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a member of the Residential Life (RL) senior leadership team.
  • In collaboration with the RL leadership team, provide strategic leadership and support toward actualizing vision for the UMBC residential experience.
  • Assist in the budget development process for the department and direct oversight for assigned functional unit. 
  • Develop, maintain, and implement an occupancy management plan; oversee housing licensing and assignments process for 4000+ bed housing program. 
  • Collaborate with the Director for Residence Education and Director for Residential Facilities to lead occupancy management and facilities management processes, including opening and closing.
  • Provides direct supervision for two professional staff and leadership and oversight for functional unit staff recruitment, hiring, and placement (professional and student staff); on-going staff development and performance management processes.
  • Responsible for multimodal communication strategies for department initiatives which include but are not limited to housing application process, opening and closings, and facilities issues.
  • Manages and monitors department social media accounts and designs and maintains department websites.
  • Coordinates and provides oversight to department level ordering, testing, deployment of all department technology and software systems and modules (StarRez, Google Suite, etc.).
  • Works with Residential Life leadership team to implement assessment strategies and dissemination of assessment data for decision-making.
  • Actively engages and contributes to the leadership and competency development of students and participates in leadership development offerings for sponsored student groups and staff.
  • Facilitates and manages approved residential student accommodations processes.
  • Serves in the Central Residential Life on-call duty rotation; provides consultation to Community Director on-call; stabilizes overnight concerns through coordinating and triaging crisis situations in collaboration with campus partners.
  • Supports development of crisis management protocols and procedures and internal residential case management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, or as judgement or necessity dictates.     
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Education Technology, Management Information Systems, or related field. 
  • Five years of experience in project management, business operations, and Higher Education administration.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments; to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to lead public relations and customer service needs within a large organization.
  • Strong data and trend analysis skills and a capacity to create forecasting models.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities while giving attention to details and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of ADA, FERPA, and Fair Housing Act policies and of contemporary housing standards relative to the housing of international students from a wide variety of countries and cultures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and prepare complex reports, statements, and/or projections as well as proven ability to handle highly confidential information.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and rapidly changing technical environment.

  • Experience in developing and conducting training of various levels of staff.
  • Ability to analyze and assess information technology training/development needs.

  • Commitment to exemplary customer service.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Seven years of experience in project management, business operations, and Higher Education administration
  • Knowledge of assessment methodology and statistical programming tools is preferred.

Salary:

Salary: $104,000 - $117,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
