 The Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM) department is hiring a Benefits and Wellness Specialist or Senior Specialist.   

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Benefits and Wellness Manager, this position is responsible for providing consultation and guidance to employees with a focus on retirement as well as state health benefits, and tuition remission.

Telework:

A hybrid work schedule (2 days telework, 3 in the office) may be available.

Responsibilities:

  • Administration of Retirement Benefits, including consultations, conducting audits and administration of supplemental retirement benefits. (Senior Specialist- lead consultations with limited guidance.)
  • Administration of the contractual population health benefits and assisting with their enrollment of State health benefits via the Affordable Care Act (ACA) process.
  • Analyze employee data for benefits eligibility, partnering with HRIS to ensure data is accurate and sent to Employee Benefits Division properly
  • Facilitation of New Hire Orientation and creation of materials, including ensuring correct new hire retirement enrollment forms are complete as well as understanding which employee classes are eligible for benefits.
  • Serves as UMBC’s representative to approve tuition remission, answer employee questions, manage any chargebacks and inform employees of any tax responsibilities.
  • Collaborates with benefits team in launching Wellness initiatives across campus.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred but equivalent experience in benefits will be considered
  • Senior Specialist: Four years of experience in HR-related functions, with at least two years of experience leading retirement consultations
  • Specialist: Two years of HR-related experience, with one being benefits related

Note:

  • Must achieve "Retirement Coordinator" status with the Maryland State Retirement and Pension Agency within 6 months of employment in this position. Must be successfully re-certified every 5 years to remain a Retirement Coordinator.
  • Must achieve "Agency Benefit Coordinator (ABC)" status with the State Employee Benefits Division within 6 months of employment in this position. Must be successfully re-certified each year prior to the State's annual Open Enrollment period.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Have or have held: Certified Retirement Coordinator with the Maryland State Retirement & Pension Agency
  • Have or have held: Certified Agency Benefits Coordinator with the State Employee Benefits Division

Salary:

Salary:

Specialist: $60,000 to $67,000

Senior Specialist: $74,000 to $81,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
