Position Overview:

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking an Accounting Associate for the Student Affairs Business Services Center (SABSC). This position works closely with Division of Student Affairs (DoSA) staff and other University departments and is responsible for payroll, procurement and other activities for select DoSA departments.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available. 

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Manage payroll-related transactions on behalf of DoSA departments, including but not limited to time entry, new employee onboarding and other personnel actions
  • Create and process purchase requisitions and payments
  • Review and reconcile monthly financial data
  • Process journal entries, travel and other expense reimbursements
  • Prepare and reconcile cash deposits
  • Review and process internal and external billing and receivables
  • Prepare monthly analysis of revenue and expense activity related to DoSA departments
  • Meet regularly with DoSA directors and department staff to review financial and personnel activities
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Four years accounting clerical experience. Customer service experience and/or cash handling and payment processing experience

Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Skill in using analytical techniques for payroll processing and other financial activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate and work as part of a team.
  • Skill in reviewing and processing financial documents using PeopleSoft.
  • Ability to process payroll calculations ensuring accuracy.
  • Understanding of fundamental accounting principles, various privacy laws and audit requirements. Ability to exercise attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide high level of customer service
