The Marketing Department at UMBC carries out functions related to strategic enrollment marketing, brand awareness, digital strategy, and creative services. UMBC Marketing works in partnership with undergraduate and graduate admissions as well as departments across campus to promote the UMBC experience and attract students.

Position Overview: |
The Business Services Specialist will be responsible for business functions supporting University Communications and Marketing (UCM). Under the guidance and assistance of existing university staff, this position will support a combination of business operations, including procurements, accounts payable, recruitment and HR transactions, and will be the main business and administration support for the UCM division. Other responsibilities include processing travel and ordering office supplies, tracking expenditures, producing reports as requested, documenting expenditures, providing regular updates and assisting departments in staying within budget.

Responsibilities: |
The person in this role will track and update the status of each vacant position in the UCM staffing chart, and will be responsible for the onboarding of all new UCM staff. This role is responsible for ensuring all hiring documents from new employees are properly completed and submitted.
The Business Services Specialist (UCM) uses PeopleSoft HR system to process and review time and leave for designated staff and students and initiate corrections as needed. This role is responsible for processing leave payouts and terminations and other employee actions.
Financial responsibilities include working on complex multi-step purchases with contracts (including IT agreements - Software Cloud services requests) using PAW and will use PeopleSoft Finance for other reporting. This position is responsible for ordering supplies and equipment and receives and distributes supplies as appropriate working with other specialists to ensure proper controls are in place.
The Business Services Specialist processes travel; maintains a P-Card for purchases; and assists with other duties as assigned, including volunteering for events, team projects or other campus activities.

Required Minimum Qualifications: |
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six years progressively responsible experience in a combination of budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing and personnel work
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, HR or a related field
- Prior experience working at USM, State of Maryland or higher education
- Experience or training in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives are helpful

Salary: |
Pay Range 11 (minimum: $49,582 maximum: $81,782) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
