Position Overview:

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking a PDS Placement Coordinator for the Department of Education. The incumbent will work with the Program Coordinators, Professional Development Schools (PDS), school system personnel and the Director of Field Experience and Clinical Practice (DFECP) to place interns and field placement students at approved sites prior to the start of each semester, support candidates in the field during the semester, and support PDS administration throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

Securing Placements

  • Securing lists of candidates needing placement from Program Coordinators, along with special circumstances for placement consideration and program/course-specific requirements.
  • Confirming school, mentor, contact information, and possibilities in the PDS sites before placing an intern outside the PDS network.
  • Reaching out to district coordinators to place candidates outside of our PDS network.
  • Collaborating with the DFECP on special cases.
  • Collecting and reviewing fingerprinting/criminal disclosure information for interns and field placement students and recording receipt in database prior to passing on paperwork to the DFECP.

Placement Support 

  • Maintaining database of placements with pertinent information for related reports; providing DFECP and school system contacts with spreadsheets of interns, field placement students, and contact information prior to the start of each semester.
  • Ensuring timely mailing of packets for interns, mentors, and supervisors prior to each semester in consultation with Program Coordinators and DFECP.
  • Sending out and collecting contract letters for mentors.
  • Communicating promptly with Program Coordinators and DFECP regarding problematic placement cases and referring requests from interns for placement changes to DFECP.

Liaison and Supervision 

  • Building ongoing relationships over time with school personnel in regard to placements.
  • Serving as a liaison with partner schools to support interns, mentors, and other personnel at the school.
  • Supporting OFECP professional development opportunities for interns, mentors, and supervisors.
  • Supervising up to 5-10 intern candidates in the field–this involves observing, coaching, and evaluating the candidates about once a month during each semester.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree preferably in education or a related field
  • Current or expired state teaching license, and at least five years of experience teaching in public schools
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or other education-specific field
  • School supervisory or administrative experience

Salary:

Salary: $58,000 - $65,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Additional Information: Please note that this is a full-time contractual staff position. The contract term will be for a one-year period, with the option to renew.
