The Academic Affairs Other Units, Shared Services Center (AAOU SSC) is seeking a Business Services Specialist who will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day processing of Human Resources, Payroll and Financial transactions for the center’s 18+ units.

Responsibilities: |
Join the AAOU SSC! We are a centralized group that provides payroll and hiring assistance to departments under Academic Affairs. We serve as the subject matter experts on the University’s general business processes (Accounting, Budgeting, Finance, Human Resources, Payroll & Hiring, Procurement). The incumbent will support the day-to-day payroll and hiring related tasks that are complex in nature. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Prepare and process payroll and HR paperwork for all hires, transfers, terminations, labor distributions and other actions for all employee types, leave payouts, bi-weekly payroll and time entry for assigned departments;
- Financial tasks handling procurement, accounts payable, journal entries;
- Administrative tasks as assigned;
- Identify customer issues and execute effective method(s) for resolution, determine if critical or expertise-specific issues should be referred to the AAOU SSC's Associate Director, Specialist, or other designated manager for resolution;
- Reviews current processes, procedures and collaborates with others to seek process improvements;
- Ensure compliance with all institutional and/or external policies or regulations;
- Provide excellent customer service;
- Other administrative tasks and duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications: |
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Six years progressively responsible experience in a combination of budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing and personnel work.
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Experience serving multiple clients, units, or department
- Familiarity with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience/familiarity with payroll and hiring forms (i.e. I-9, W-4, etc.)
- Technologically savvy (ability to learn new processes, systems and software quickly)
- Experience using Google Applications such as Docs, Drive, Sheets, as well as experience using Microsoft Office products, specifically Word and Excel
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to prioritize, organize, problem solve, and manage time to meet deadlines/goals
- Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and critical thinking skills
- Comfortable working remotely or in a virtual setting

Salary: |
Pay Range 11 (minimum: $49,582 maximum: $81,782) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
