Position Overview: |
The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking an MT Trade Chief 1 (Locksmith) for the Division of Student Affairs (Residential Life Facilities). Under general supervision, functions as a leader of a small to medium-sized team involved in lower-graded mechanical trades work. Performs as a working team member with expertise in the assigned trades area, provides guidance and instruction or supervision to others, and is responsible for project completion.

Responsibilities: |
- Organizes, assigns, and coordinates the technical maintenance work and installation services rendered by skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers assigned to a multi-trade work team
- Performs journey-level work in the assigned trade; troubleshoots problems; performs maintenance and repairs. Prepares estimates of time, labor, and materials; prepares bills of materials. Ensures that assigned projects adhere to time and cost estimates. Monitors work on site and notifies supervisors of problems, scheduling, or deadline issues.
- Repairs, maintains and installs doors, door closers, card access, mechanical locking hardware, sills, jambs, and other accessories. Repairs, maintains and installs electrical switches, receptacles, light fixtures, exit signs, smoke detectors, circuit breakers, and fuses. Update, monitor, and replace door locks as needed. Monitor and review Onity, Lenel, and other door security efforts/operations.
- Supervises and trains assigned personnel; assigns specific tasks and evaluates results. Provide training to summer and temporary staff on properly using tools, procedures, and methods to complete assigned responsibilities.
- Inspects completed job assignments for adherence to trade standards. Inspects building systems equipment on a regular basis and prepares and submits inspection reports.
- Prepares requisitions and obtains materials needed to complete assigned projects and essential stock of critical materials. Ensures cost-effective use of materials allocated
- Ensures operational readiness and safety of work areas, tools, and equipment; conducts routine inspections; performs routine repairs and maintenance on equipment and tools.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications: |
- Four years of progressively responsible experience in the trade(s) where assigned to include at least one year in a lead or supervisory capacity. In a Non-Supervisory/Leader position, 5 years of experience is required.
- Valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license

Salary: |
Pay Range 11 (minimum: $49,582 maximum: $81,782) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
