Position Overview: |
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is seeking applicants with payroll experience and general business operations knowledge. The Business Services Specialist will provide services and transactional support to the CAHSS Dean's Office, as well as other departments within CAHSS.

Responsibilities: |
Payroll Processing
- Organize and submit a high volume of payroll for all hires, transfers, terminations, or other actions for all employee types for various departments.
- Reconcile and analyze payroll reports looking for changes and/or discrepancies.
- Reconcile compensation expenses for all accounts and funding sources, including identifying, researching, and correcting errors in a timely manner or coordinating with Payroll to resolve complex issues.
- Academic year payouts: determine need, coordinate with retirement/resignation decisions, calculate, and process the payouts for faculty.
- Leave tracking and management, including processing leave payouts for terminated employees.
Position Management
- Manage active and inactive positions, ensure that faculty, staff, GA, and student positions are classified appropriately and available as needed for smooth payroll processing. Ensure terminations and temporary vacancies comply with HR policies, processing and submission of DBEs, retros, and other payroll-related functions for regular personnel changes or monitoring of grant funding.
- Maintain integrity of budgeted FTEs
Additional duties may include:
- Procurement
- PageUp - Hiring Liaison
- Travel and expense reimbursements
- Journal entries
- Review of current processes and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
It is understood that this position will be expected to cross train and may be required to shift duties within a broad range of business and administrative functions and services provided by the Shared Services Center.

Required Minimum Qualifications: |
Requires a High School Diploma or GED and six years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing, and personnel work.
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
- Excellent organizational, time management, communication (verbal and written), analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Knowledge of USM policies and procedures.
- Ability to prioritize workflow.
- Experience with Peoplesoft Human Resources System, Peoplesoft Finance.
- Ability to take initiative and contribute to overall process improvements.

Salary: |
Pay Range 11 (minimum: $49,582 maximum: $81,782) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
