Position Overview:

UMBC is accepting applications for the position of Head Softball Coach. The Head Softball Coach is a full-time, 12-month, benefited position responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Softball Program. The Head Coach provides effective leadership, recruitment, coaching and monitoring of student-athletes to encourage successful academic and team performance. The Head Coach is responsible for planning the annual competition schedule, practice schedules, program administration, managing the program budget and providing for the health and safety of the athletes involved in the program.

Responsibilities:

Specific duties include:

  • Player development (practice planning and skill instruction, game management, attention to academics and commitment to community service)
  • Recruiting and retaining academically and athletically qualified student athletes
  • Overseeing all administrative responsibilities (scheduling, team travel, balancing the budget and hiring, supervising and evaluating assistant coaches)
  • Cultivating relationships with alumni and working with Athletics Department staff around fundraising, special events and appearances; and performing other duties as assigned.

It is expected that the successful candidate will abide by all written policies and procedures of the Department of Athletics, UMBC, the America East Conference (AEC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university and three (3) years of high level coaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Five (5) years of head coaching experience at the collegiate level
  • Playing experience at the collegiate level preferred
  • Individuals with knowledge or understanding of mid-major universities are highly desired

Salary:

Salary: $92,000 to $103,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
