The Benefits and Wellness Manager will manage UMBC’s employee Wellness Program as well as health insurance, tuition remission, retirement and other benefits.

Responsibilities:
|
- Provide leadership and supervision of the Benefits and Wellness Unit. Supervise the day-to-day work activities of the benefits unit in the administration of health, retirement, tuition remission, disability, and other benefit programs. Create goals, objectives, and planning.
- Manage UMBC employee data flowing into the SPS Workday for Benefits System administered by the State of Maryland. Work closely with the State of Maryland, USM, UMBC Benefits Staff, and the Division of IT on data evaluation, integration, and reporting.
- Review and report ACA data to the State of Maryland. Work closely with the Budget office on Affordable Care Act financial reporting. Review complex ACA eligibility for contractual jobs such as contingent employment, adjunct faculty which may require a complex review of hours worked and courseload calculations.
- Review, research, and evaluate more complex requests to ensure appropriate steps have been completed to facilitate employee enrollment in, or eligibility for, the various benefit plans to include health plans (medical, prescription, dental, life, LTD, etc), tuition remission and/or retirement plans. Work closely with employees and/or dependents who have complex benefits needs such as disabilities, newborns, divorces, loss of employee/dependents, and other life events.
- Create and execute communication strategy for Benefit information dissemination. Manage benefit communications to the UMBC campus. Update and maintain Benefit information on the UMBC website, post internally in myUMBC, compose and send direct email communications, campus announcements, and other methods of communication. Ensure the HR website has the most up-to-date information for the campus community and the general public as it relates to benefits, Affordable Care tuition remission/reimbursement, and other related matters.
- Responsible for creating, facilitating, and hosting campus training and events on pre-retirement, financial wellness, EAP, Open Enrolment Fairs and Trainings, and other benefit topics.
- Responsible for ensuring campus compliance with IRS regulations, State Policies and Laws, USM Policy, and Federal regulations. Remain abreast of changes to various Federal, State, and USM Board of Regents policies governing exempt and nonexempt staff of the university to ensure campus administrative processes to ensure continued compliance.
- Serve on several institutional and USM committees to foster campus collaboration and inter-institutional collaboration.
- Maintain certification through the State of Maryland Department of Budget & Management and the Maryland State Retirement Agencies. (Required within first 6 months of employment.)

Required Minimum Qualifications:
|
- Bachelor's Degree
- Three years of HR benefits experience.
- Knowledge of traditional benefits programs, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, FMLA, ACA and related laws.
- Experience handling and prioritizing multiple initiatives, projects and relationships.
- Strong customer service and written/verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with and present to employees at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical skills including working with databases

Preferred Qualifications:
|
- ABC and Retirement Coordinator certifications.
- Seven years of experience working in benefits.
- Experience leading a benefits team.
- Experience working within State of Maryland, preferably University System of Maryland.
|

Salary:
|
Salary starts at $91,093 to $99,815, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
