The Department of Psychology is the largest academic department within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and has a complex business model for the financial management of the department's various funding sources.

Position Overview:

The Business Specialist will provide business services to the Department of Psychology to include managing the State budget, self-support projects; faculty start up projects; advising the Chair on budget decisions, expense and income forecasting; funding scenarios; problem solving suggestions; providing updates on all accounts quarterly or monthly; approving all purchases, reimbursements, travel and payroll.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available. 

Responsibilities:

The Business Specialist reports to the Department Chair and will supervise an Administrative Assistant II.

Specific duties include:

  • Management and reconciliation of the State budget, including the graduate student budget, self-support projects, and faculty startup projects
  • Advisor to Chair on budget decisions, expense and income forecasting, provide monthly and quarterly updates on all accounts
  • Approve purchase and reimbursement requests in PAW procurement system and Psychology RT system
  • Approve travel and travel funding requests
  • Serve as payroll approver
  • Serve as P-Card and D-Card (purchasing) supervisor
  • Maintain Graduate Assistant master spreadsheet and oversee preparation of appointment letters, amendments and forms
  • Prepare journal entries
  • Advise payroll preparer when payroll retros and DBEs are necessary and ensure they are submitted timely
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Strong quantitative skills and strong facility with Excel.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Business coursework or degree
  • State budget experience
  • Two years of higher education experience preferred and/or Master's coursework in a business related field.

Salary:

Salary: $59,000 - $66,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
