Asian Studies Program
Asian Studies is the interdisciplinary study of Asia – its people and cultures, its policy and history, its language and art, and more. UMBC offers a major, a minor, and a certificate program in Asian Studies, allowing students a flexible way to incorporate Asian Studies into their overall plans. Asian Studies students are instructed by more than twenty faculty, representing thirteen different academic departments.
Students combine classwork in a variety of disciplines and advanced language study in Chinese, Hindi, Korean, or Japanese. This position will provide general administrative support to the Asian Studies Program; supports the Director and affiliate Faculty.

Responsibilities: |
General office duties includes front desk support; responding to phone calls, emails and greeting visitors. Payroll and purchasing; tracking budget; creating and maintaining databases and academic records. Maintains website as needed.
Programmatic duties includes preparing annual lecture series; special workshop and seminar-style events for faculty; coordinates catering and AV services; arranges travel and lodging for visiting scholars. Creates and updates data base of regional Asian Studies Departments, organizations and contacts. Creates and updates database of potential funding organizations and investigates pubic interest and potential audiences for Asian Studies lectures.
Gathers information needed by Director for projects including grant and fellowship opportunities in the humanities, public relations and advertising, biographical and contact information, and alumni relations. Works with Director in planning the Asian Studies budget and fundraising; ability to work independently to provide regular budget reports to the Director and the Associate Dean; works with the Director in the preparation of grant proposals: discussion of content, processing and submission. Evaluates the attendance and quality of the Program's events and applies this toward the following year's event planning. Attends and participates as required in various Center and UMBC events and meetings affecting the Asian Studies Program on and off campus. Attends Asian Studies sponsored events. Schedules meetings with various faculty and external advisory boards and updates Director's calendar.

Required Minimum Qualifications: |
- Bachelors degree.
- Two years experience in administrative staff work.
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: |
Competency with PeopleSoft processes and Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Calendar; basic competency in HTML for website maintenance preferred; or willingness to learn such skills. Excellent communication skills both in person, on telephone and in email and official correspondence.

Salary: |
Pay Range 10 (minimum: $24,069 maximum: $39,695 -- at 20 hours per week) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
