PROGRAM OVERVIEW: The University of Maryland, Baltimore County Upward Bound Program is a federally funded high school college readiness project designed to provide assistance for low-income and/or first-generation participants. The project serves the following target Baltimore County high schools: Chesapeake HS, Overlea HS, Parkville HS and Kenwood HS.

 

Responsibilities:

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County Upward Bound Program is seeking a qualified Residential Director/General Associate to facilitate operations and oversight of the six (6) week summer academic enrichment residential component.

The position requires residing in the dormitory on campus amongst program participants and tutor/counselor staff. Must be available to work during the residential component which includes overnight duty. The program operates from June 23 – July 25, 2025 with mandatory training occurring June 16 – 18, 2025.

  1. Oversee or delegate responsibility for all and any activities involving students from the Upward Bound program; actively supervise all students at all times within the dorm, on campus and during field trips
  2. Oversee check-in and check-out of students for the program and weekends. Ensure that all paperwork is completed by the Tutor/Counselor (TC) staff, students and parent(s)/guardian(s).
  3. Oversee and supervise students and staff during off campus activities/field trips (i.e. record attendance, report any incidents/accidents to administrative staff, etc)
  4. Supervise and/or delegate responsibility to TC’s for oversight of students during meals, structured activities, free time, activities, trips, and other times as assigned.
  5. Supervise and/or delegate responsibility to TC’s for enforcing curfew and lights out.
  6. Report any illness, accidents/incidents, or conduct concerns to the administrative staff. Complete all associated paperwork/incident reports in a timely fashion.
  7. Monitor any damage of residence halls and report to conference services, front desk and administrative staff
  8. Attend all scheduled training sessions and staff meetings.
Required Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree required in education, counseling, psychology, social work or a reasonably related field.

2. Minimum one year experience as a Resident Director 

3. Minimum one year experience working with low-income, first-generation or disadvantaged students.

4. Experience and/or training in student assessment, career development, academic advisement and guidance, and educational planning and advisement.

5. Ability to work effectively with students, parents, community organizations, school personnel and members of the community.

6. Good written and oral communications skills with preference given to individuals who are fluent in languages other than English.

7. Experience in facilitating workshops for students, parents and community members.

8. Preference will be given to those candidates whose experience and/or background are similar to the target population.

Note: The program operates from June 23 – July 25, 2025 with mandatory training occurring June 16 – 18, 2025.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Master's degree preferred in education, counseling, psychology, social work or a reasonably related field.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
