Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director, Design and Construction assists in providing leadership and oversight for all aspects of campus construction and renovation projects in support of a four million square foot, 512-acre campus. The incumbent will provide day-to-day direction to construction project managers and ensure successful project delivery of all projects within time, cost and quality parameters. This person will work with the Director to improve and create systems and business processes to ensure quality project delivery to the campus community.
 
The successful candidate will lead a professional project management staff that currently manages 35-50 active design and construction projects with average expenditures of $70 million per year over the past ten years.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the University's academic enterprise by designing and constructing an award-winning, safe and sustainable campus currently containing 70 buildings with over four million square footage on a 512 acre campus
  • Providing proactive project management that represents industry leading practices and surpasses customer expectations with minimum disruption to the campus
  • Creating and sustaining an environment that maximizes the contribution of each team member
  • Ensuring successful project delivery of all projects within time, cost and quality parameters
  • Creating systems and business processes to continue improving service delivery to the campus community
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management a or related field.
  • Requires at least of eight years of experience of increasing complexity and responsibility in architecture; mechanical, electrical or civil engineering; or construction management, preferably in a university setting.
  • Requires exceptional problem-solving ability and a demonstrated ability to function as part of a collegial, high-performing team. Must be computer literate and able to analyze, interpret and prepare complex construction documents and contracts and technical and financial reports.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • An advanced degree is desired.
  • Three years of experience in project management and/or professional staff supervision desired.
  • Comprehensive experience, preferably within a university setting, with the construction and renovation of a broad range of building types with a variety of mechanical and electrical systems, and with various construction delivery methods a plus.
  • Professional licensure as an Engineer or Architect or Certification as a Professional Project Manager (PMP) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) desired.
