Position Overview:

The Office of Campus Life seeks a Coordinator for Leadership and Governance position to provide support for the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life specifically focused on supporting the Student Government Association and leadership development for UMBC students. This position helps develop and facilitate skills-building workshops, retreats, and programs for student leaders and intact student groups. The Coordinator supports the advisement of the Student Government Association under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Leadership and Governance.

Telework:

A limited hybrid telework schedule may be available. 

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities including

  • Advising the Student Government Association under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director for Leadership and Governance through one-on-one meetings, committee work, and standing meetings.
  • Creating and facilitating leadership development programs for intact groups such as the Student Government Association, the Student Events Board, student organizations, honors programs, student employees, etc in partnership with group advisors.
  • Supporting the onboarding, training, of SGA officers.
  • Managing and overseeing the SGA election process, ensuring fair and transparent elections.
  • Facilitating collaborative relationships between the SGA and college administration, under the supervision of the Assistant Director.
  • Developing and maintaining resources and training materials specific to SGA.
  • Representing Campus Life by serving on departmental, divisional, and university committees as needed.
  • Managing administrative functions such as assessment, budget management, and committee work.
  • Supporting of overall Campus Life activities including, but not limited to, Welcome Week and Homecoming.
  • Representing Campus Life at student/parent orientations and other on-and-off campus events as needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required: Bachelor's Degree

Experience Required: Experience with working with college students in an advising capacity. Understanding of leadership development theory, college student personnel administration, and higher education. 

Note: Position may require some evening and weekend hours depending on the programmatic needs of students and the department, including weekly evening meetings with the UMBC Undergraduate Senate every Monday beginning at 5:30pm during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Education Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Leadership or a comparable field.

Experience Preferred:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience advising college students within leadership programs or Student Government.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in leadership education, college student training, or college student program development in higher education or closely related field.

Salary: Salary range is 54,000 - $61,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
