Retriever Integrated Health


The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking to fill multiple Counselor and/or Psychologist positions in our co-located multidisciplinary Retriever Integrated Health (RIH) team, including counseling, medical, and health promotion. We have recently moved to the new Center for Wellbeing building.

Counseling staff at RIH are responsible for providing counseling services for students experiencing personal, social, and emotional difficulties that may impede functioning and academic progress. RIH seeks candidates who are committed to working with diverse student populations on the bases of ability, age, gender identity, nationality, race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, etc., and are dedicated to creating inclusive campus communities for students and staff. Responsibilities for this position include initial assessments; short term individual counseling; group counseling; crisis intervention; referral assistance; outreach and developmental programs (including training for paraprofessional staff and student groups) and consultation to the UMBC community; and perform other duties as assigned. Counselors may provide training and supervision for center trainees. This position will report to the Associate Director, Counseling and work closely with colleagues from Retriever Integrated Health; Residential Life; Student Affairs; and faculty, administrators, and other staff from across the campus.

 Required Minimum Qualifications:

Counselor Level Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy
  • Two years of experience in the provision of mental health care to adolescents and/or young adults.
  • Must have license as a LCSW-C, LCPC, LCMFT in Maryland, or be Maryland-license eligible without further supervision. Must obtain a Maryland license to practice independently within the first month of employment.

Psychologist Level Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
  • Two years of experience in the provision of mental health care to adolescents and/or young adults
  • Must have license as a Psychologist in Maryland, or be Maryland-license eligible within the first year of employment
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • the ability to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload,
  • a collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues,
  • a demonstrated value and appreciation of culture and knowledge and experience caring for and working alongside diverse student populations, specifically LGBTQ+ and male-identified students to fill gaps in service for underserved populations on our campus,
  • experience and interest in group counseling, referral coordination, and case management
  • experience in college mental health, including crisis management and brief interventions.

Counselor salary range starts at $68,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  

Psychologist salary range starts at $75,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
