The Choice Program at UMBC, housed within The Shriver Center, provides mentoring and advocacy services to young people - primarily Black and Latinx -throughout central Maryland. Choice utilizes a community-based, family-centered approach to promote high quality outcomes for young people and families. The Choice program engages in a collaborative process of service: where young people set goals for themselves and are supported by caring adults along the way. Choice's approach to youth development is grounded in applied critical race theory and culturally responsive, trauma-informed, restorative practices. Choice strives to be an anti-racist organization grounded in several core values: holistic development, the belief in humans, and youth-centeredness.

Position Overview:

The Senior Associate Director leads two youth-serving programs. The overarching program goals are to disentangle young people from the youth legal system and to strengthen ties to the community through increased educational and vocational opportunities.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available. 

Responsibilities:
  • Supervises the Associate Directors of youth-serving programs and their teams: up to 30 FTEs, approximately 15 PT staff, and up to 30 PT youth participants. Leads Focus Team, Choice’s middle-level program managers.
  • Develops, implements, and assesses programs to provide high quality, high impact programming. The program model reflects promising and evidence-informed practices in positive youth development and culturally appropriate trauma responsiveness. This is conducted in consultation with direct reports and service providers; the incumbent makes recommendations to Executive Leadership team.
  • Implements organizational priorities, standards, and plans for administration, training, infrastructure, risk management, quality assurance, and other activities.
  • Leads data collection and assessment in consultation with the Manager of IT and Data Evaluation. Data includes both qualitative and quantitative information that is used in storytelling efforts; these include, but are not limited to, grant reports and proposals, administrative updates, and promotional materials.
  • Assists the Executive Leadership Team to maintain partnerships at the local, state, and national level including, but not limited to, Department of Juvenile Services, Family League of Baltimore City, GOCPYVS, University of Baltimore, Levy, Baltimore Orioles, as well as foundations, philanthropic, and corporate funders.
  • Oversees Choice-operated offices, vehicles, and facilities to ensure a safe working environment in compliance with applicable regulations. Schedules routine maintenance and cleaning. Procures vendors and orders equipment and supplies, as needed.
  • Serves as backup support services on a periodic basis, participates in meetings, youth programming, and organization-wide events throughout Choice service regions.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or a related field
  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible professional level experience
  • Minimum three years related experience with youth in need of supportive services or populations from low wealth or otherwise disadvantaged communities
  • Minimum three years administrative and/or leadership experience
  • Minimum three years supervisory experience  
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master’s Degree in Human Services or a related field
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to prepare formal reports under deadlines
