Position Overview:

The Assistant Director of the The Pride Center for LGBTQIA2+ Diversity plays a crucial role in advancing UMBC’s mission of inclusivity and social justice by leading initiatives that support LGBTQ+ students, creating a welcoming campus environment, and empowering diverse voices to contribute to a more inclusive community.

Telework:

Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Develop innovative workshops, presentations, and trainings reflective of current “hot topics” for LGBTQIA+ individuals and diversity and inclusion generally. 
  • Coordinate and co­facilitate LGBTQ Support Group, and other relevant workshops, including participant recruitment and screening, curriculum planning, coordinating facilitators, and event logistics.
  • Supervise daily operations of the Pride Center.
  • Meets with involved parties, primarily students and student organizations, who have experienced or caused harm to discuss conflict resolution options specific to each case and provide guidance on those options.
  • Build and maintain partnerships in the internal and external community that enhance and strengthen resources available for students and help promote/advertise program offerings.
  • Work with campus and community partners to develop initiatives that contribute to UMBC’s overall goal of inclusive excellence.
  • Cross-collaboration with i3b team for programming, diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and student success initiatives
  •  Lead, coach, develop, and retain Pride Center staff
  • Working knowledge of the activities associated with providing service and support for all students in an LGBTQ+ (PRIDE) Center, including knowledge of diversity and social justice issues. Demonstrated knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles. Familiarity with social justice, multiculturalism, intersectionality, and related principles.
  • Develops curriculum, resources and materials that can be used by schools to support LGBTQIA +students and allies.
  • Support content creation for myUMBC and relevant i3b social media sites to promote relevant programming and services to students
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required: Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Experience Required: 1-2 years experience with:

  • Experience in a lead role, including responsibility for providing day-to-day oversight of area, leadership of a team, meetings, and decision-making.
  • A demonstrated commitment to restorative principles and conflict management options as strategies for managing student interpersonal conflict in higher education settings.
  • Demonstrated capacity for excellent written and verbal communication that is responsive to the needs of a diverse community.
  • Knowledge, sensitivity and understanding of the social, political, personal and cross-cultural needs, concerns and interests of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, agender, aromantic
    and people of intersecting identities in the campus community and thorough understanding of the Pride Center mission, vision and values.
  • Ability to develop educational programs, including diversity training development and facilitation.
  • Ability to clearly articulate the specific needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, agender, aromantic and people of intersecting identities to university community members
    unfamiliar and uncomfortable with issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications: 

Education Preferred: Master's degree.

Experience Preferred:  3-5 years of related experience.

Salary:

Salary: $69,000 - $78,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Hours:

Full-time position, with occasional evening hours required.
