As one center within Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion, and Belonging (i3b), The Gathering Space for Spiritual Well-Being serves as a spiritually-centered space where students and UMBC community members can gather at the intersection of religion, faith, spirituality, and other lived experiences. The Gathering Space opened in August 2021 within the Center for Well-Being, replacing the previous Interfaith Center structure and focused on establishing a stronger connection between spirituality and overall well-being. The Gathering Space prioritizes individual religious practice, opportunities to explore holistic well-being connected to religion and spirituality, and creating spaces to engage across difference by centering the importance of interfaith work and dialogue. Within the Gathering Space, three core themes are emphasized for all who engage with this space:

  1. radical love & belonging,
  2. 2 spiritual well-being, and
  3. 3 energetic pluralism.
Position Overview:

The Program Coordinator at the Gathering Space for Spiritual Well-Being plays a key role in advancing UMBC's mission by fostering an inclusive environment that supports student identity and well-being through diverse programming. By designing and evaluating programs, leading the Interfaith Fellows Program, and overseeing student interns, this role enhances the campus community's engagement with various belief systems and worldviews, aligning with UMBC’s commitment to holistic student development and inclusive excellence.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the director in long-term planning, strategic alignment, and management oversight of all student affairs-related initiatives dedicated to recruitment, retention, graduation, and sense of community connected to Religion and Belief
  • Manage, develop, and execute student-based outreach services, educational programs, and associated learning outcomes 
  • Support the design and implementation of Interfaith Fellows Program and other interfaith and dialogue opportunities for students connected to religions and belief
  • Provide day-to-day oversight and management of the Gathering Space for Spiritual Well-Being, shared Spiritual Advising Office, Footwashing rooms, kitchenette, and two satellite prayer spaces across campus
  • Support Assistant Director in developing operational and programming budget for Gathering Space for Spiritual Well-Being that includes programming and services connected to students with closely-held religious and spiritual identities at UMBC  
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (sociology, anthropology, religious studies, interreligious studies, theology, social work, etc.)  

Experience Required: 1-2 years experience with:

  • Knowledge of different religious traditions, including various beliefs and practices within major global religious, spiritual, and worldview traditions
  • Demonstrated experience in engagement and cooperation across differences of religion, spirituality, and worldview identities
  • Student-centered approach and ability to support and collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds and identities (race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.) 
  • Experience in program development and event planning
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, & oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with supervision and staff development
  • Ability to manage multiple programmatic areas, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Detailed oriented and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate, co-create with colleagues
  • Commitment to the value of pluralism and diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Work, Excel) & Google Suite products
Preferred Qualifications: 

Education Preferred: Master’s Degree in a relevant field or extensive experience engaging with religious and/or spiritual communities

Experience Preferred: 3-4 years experience 

  • Experience in interfaith/interreligious/work in diverse communities and/or program planning and implementation
  • Training in facilitating, leading dialogue across difference
  • Experience creating/leading student leadership development programs
  • Understanding of issues related to religious pluralism in higher education
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and inspire a diverse groups and individuals
  • Connection to and knowledge of religious, spiritual, and secular traditions
  • Ability to apply student development and learning outcomes theories
  • Ability to create assessment and make data-informed decisions

Salary: Salary starts at $58,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Hours: Full-time/ Commitment to staffing on Sundays and occasional evenings is required.
